Design and Innovation

We are in a period of high velocity change in the global economy and in nearly all its underlying industry segments.  Survival and ultimately success are increasingly dependent on the ability of an organization to respond to the relentless change and capitalize on its emerging opportunities.   Organizational capabilities must address the following trends:

  • Fast emerging and changing opportunities that require much shorter time to market.
  • Fast commoditization of products and low barriers to entry for services that demand increasing value be delivered to maintain revenue growth.
  • Disruptive technologies that quickly shift competitive landscapes and customer requirements
  • Increased competition as slackened demand has forced everyone to fight hard for growth driven by market share gains versus simply a growing market.

Organizational cultures that grew during a different economic environment face new realities and change at both individual and organizational levels.  Ad hoc and inefficient innovation and design processes can’t succeed in a faster paced, increasingly competitive business environment.  Traditions that previously yielded success must be modified if not abandoned.

To increase the pace of change and break through barriers, new tools and processes must be introduced into the organization.  Qualtec has developed the capabilities to offer its clients the knowledge and experience to successfully deal with these issues.

Service Design and Innovation

Designing a product and designing services have many similarities but also key differences.  Imagine the design challenges when repeatability, storability, quality measurement and patentability are issues.  Time and again basic elements of design are reinvented to build a proxy for what is normally practiced.

Design for Six Sigma (DFSS)

DFSS is a rigorous methodology that can be applied to designing both products and processes. The result is designs that consistently meet customer requirements, projected costs, targeted release dates, and production capabilities.

TRIZ

When you’ve tried everything else and need a different way to look at the problem, TRIZ may be the answer.  TRIZ has emerged as one of the key tools to solving the riddle of Gordian’s Knot and innovating.  It is also a great capstone course to Service Design & innovation as well as DFSS.
