Lean Six Sigma Black Belt
SSQ's Lean Six Sigma Black
Belt program blends black-belt
level Lean and Six Sigma
capability within the DMAIC
methodology. Participants
learn how to drive large-scale
projects to optimize workflows,
increase throughput, decrease
error rates, improve flexibility
to meet customer requirements,
and decrease the overall cost of
doing business.
Instruction is
application focused, therefore
requiring all participants to
successfully complete numerous
case studies and exercises
during the classroom portion of
the training.
Knowledge transfer is
demonstrated by real-time
application of skills.
The program is typically
delivered in 4 1-week sessions,
with candidates receiving
coaching and mentoring as they
apply newly learned skill and
tools to their projects between
sessions

Session 1 - Define
Goal:
During the first week of
training Lean and Six Sigma are
introduced. Participants define
their business flows from
customer need to customer
satisfaction; identify critical
metrics for their processes and
begin to define their
improvement project.
Objectives:
Upon
completion of this session, the
participant will be able to:
-
Identify key stakeholders
and verify the voice of the
stakeholder.
-
Identify critical processes
and map value streams
-
Identify the characteristics
of a good business case and
refine the scope of the
project.
-
Identify primary and
secondary project metrics.
-
Map
the business process to be
improved.
-
Identify waste
-
Organize the workplace (The
5 ‘S’s )
-
Identify constraints in the
process
-
Establish a continuous flow
process
-
Identify process cycle-time
variation
-
Define
and calculate Takt time
-
Define
process metrics
Session 2 - Measure
Goal:
During the second week of
training, the focus is on
defining critical inputs to
their processes and
organizations, and identifying
the decision points and
associated criteria for
decision-making. .
Objectives:
Upon
completion of this session, the
participant will be able to:
-
Verify
the reliability of the
measurement or the
decision-making system
-
Establish the baseline
capability and performance
of the process
-
Explore the sub-processes
-
Create
spaghetti charts
-
Identify failure modes and
determine their effects.
-
Characterize and describe
the phases of personal and
organizational transition in
the change process.
Session 3 - Analyze
Goal:
During the third week of
training, the focus is on the
use of graphical analysis, and
inferential statistics to
analyze process performance and
identify significant X’s
influencing process performance.
Objectives:
Upon
completion of this session, the
participant will be able to:
-
Upon
completion of this session,
the participant will be able
to:
-
Define
performance
objectives using graphical
data analysis.
-
Document critical X’s by
performing root cause
identification and
hypotheses tests.
-
Analyze sources of
variability using regression
analysis.
Session 4 - Improve and
Control
Goal:
During the fourth week of
training, the focus is on
quantifying the impact of the
input (root-cause) on the
outputs, determining a practical
solution, optimizing and
controlling the inputs necessary
to sustain the improved
performance of the output and
validating the impact of the
implemented improvement.
Objectives:
-
Verify
root causes through
statistical tests, and
design of experiments (DOE).
-
Generate solutions to
address the root causes.
-
Develop criteria to screen
and select solutions
-
Maintain visible operations
that are controllable. (No
hidden activity or cost)
-
Develop a full
implementation plan
including project and change
management elements.
-
Assess the impact of the
solution comparing the
baseline to the improvement.
-
Construct a control plan
that documents the process
with process maps and
procedures to assure the
solution becomes part of the
daily work.
-
Identify translation
opportunities.
